Wedge Sneakers Are Back: The 2010s Shoe That Works Surprisingly Well With 90s Denim

They’re usually called wedge sneakers, hidden-wedge sneakers or wedge high-tops, and the silhouette is closely associated with Isabel Marant’s iconic Bekett sneaker. The Bekett launched in 2011 with a concealed heel, high-top shape and Velcro straps, and quickly became one of the defining shoes of the early 2010s. The original wedge-sneaker craze peaked around 2011–2013, but this is one of those slightly controversial shoes fashion refused to leave buried. British Vogue was already noting a revival in 2022, and the comeback became much more visible through 2024 and 2025 as early-2010s fashion returned. By 2025, Vogue reported sharply rising interest in the Bekett silhouette, and the style is still part of the sneaker conversation in 2026. British Vogue

The easiest way to wear them now is less 2012, more 90s-meets-Y2K. Try a beige pair with faded straight-leg denim, a fitted tee and oversized leather jacket, or wear brown wedge sneakers with black jeans, a ribbed tank and messenger bag. They also work surprisingly well with plaid minis, cargo skirts and oversized knits. The hidden wedge already gives the shoe plenty of personality, so the rest of the outfit can stay relaxed.

My favorite combination is the one above: Levi’s 501-style jeans + smooth-leather wedge sneakers. The straighter, vintage denim keeps the wedge from looking overly polished, while a leather jacket or simple white tank pulls the whole thing back toward the 90s. The warm caramel version adds just enough color without losing that worn-in vintage mood. In other words, this very 2010s shoe becomes considerably more interesting when you style it with pieces borrowed from the decade before.

The comeback also makes sense within the wider return of nostalgic, slightly unconventional footwear.
